Accreditation Schemes

Too often buyers of soft tissue products, plastic refuse sacks and industrial cotton mops have not received what they paid for.

Soft tissue products have been found to be significantly shorter or narrower, plastic refuse sacks not strong enough to hold the loads as advertised and cotton mops lacking in absorbency.

Determined to drive up standards and ensure its members were competing on a level playing field, the CHSA introduced the Accreditation Schemes.

Today the Accreditation Schemes for Soft Tissue, Plastic Refuse Sacks and Industrial Cotton Mops report through a managing Panel to the Association’s Council.

Each Scheme guarantees:

Consistency of supply: customers receive what they order

Accurate labeling: customers know what is inside the packaging

Fully audited manufacturers: customers get what they pay for

Our Standard, Your Guarantee

Auditing Process

The Association gives these businesses a powerful collective voice and keeps them informed and connected through highlight events, seminars and the newsletter.

Applicants are only admitted to the relevant Scheme if they pass the initial audit, during which the inspector reviews the labels to ensure they are accurate and comply with the relevant Standard. This is essential if buyers are to have the information they need to be clear about what they are purchasing and for each product to be traceable to its manufacturer.

The inspector then carries out an audit of the applicant’s products. In the Soft Tissue Scheme he will measure the length and width; in the Plastic Sack Scheme he will conduct a drop test to establish if the product is fit for purpose; and in the Mop Scheme he tests for the weight of the yarn and absorbency.

In the first year of membership an organisation will be audited four times then at least twice annually thereafter. Should any member fail to meet the relevant Standard they would ultimately loose their Accreditation status.
